The Bawley area is one of Australia’s best-kept secrets. It's 3 and a half
hours from Sydney and just over 2 hours from Canberra. There are a set of fine-sand beaches linked via basalt headlands, so one beach is always safe, swimmable, or surf-able. The water’s pristine – with great seasonal fishing. There’s 5 surf-breaks within a kilometer or two, and the bush begins just metres back from the shoreline, (and in our back garden).
The whales have returned and our bays are resting places for mothers & calves from August to November. The local family of dolphins has grown so big, they’ve formed pods by age. The native birds and ‘roos come and go as they please through the native wetland (terragong). Now the coast is Marine Reserve, the seals are fishing off the Points. With air-cover supplied by black cockatoos and sea eagles.
5 beaches = swimming, sunbathing, surfing, snorkelling or scuba. Walking between them takes you though middens, where the Yuini-people gathered 3,500 years ago for feasts. There are bush walks along the coast, or inland to sights like Pigeon-House mountain. Your bikes/kayaks/surfboards will be safe in our big lock-up garage. Of course, the house is also set up for you to do absolutely nothing, so read on...
In Thailand spirit-houses protect a houses' occupants, sustaining and giving good energy. After 20 years living in Asia, we thought that was an appropriate name, and ideal purpose, of our Bawley Point home. We're at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, backing on to an original forest-wetland reserve. Full of mahoganies, water birds & swamp wallabies. It's not on the beach - but Crown Land Laws prevent any on-beach development here.
The central pavilion comprises modern kitchen, lounge, dining and a huge sofa in front of a combustion fire. There are two bedrooms with queen beds, one with en-suite, the other with a separate bathroom. Outside there’s a huge deck, a sunroom for rainy days, garden aplenty for lounging, and a secluded Thai Sala. Oh, and a plunge pool – for hot summer weather. It's perfect for one to two couples, or a small family.
Cormorant Beach is only 100m through the beach reserve. Close enough for a pre-coffee morning dip. Or for the crash of the waves to lull you asleep at night. Should supplies run short, an IGA Supermarket, Bottleshop, Newsagent, Takeaway & Pharmacy, are 5 minutes down the road. Bateman's Bay and Ulladulla are under 30 minutes drive if you need restaurants or a bigger shop. Coffee & food is served at Luci's Cafe and the Flo Van.
High Season: $3,000 per week
Rest of year: $2,000 per week

2 double bedrooms. One with ensuite, the other with separate bathroom. Ideal for one to two couples, or a very small family. Be aware there are many curios & breakables for young children. So please think carefully about watching them instead of relaxing yourselves.

Fitted & stocked, modern kitchen. Gas burners with electric stove. Espresso Pot, Toaster, Microwave, Fridge (with back-up fridge in Garage). Augmented by BBQ - please tell Al if more gas is needed.
Ensuite and separate bathroom (pictured). Bring your own towels (and sheets). Overnight hot-water storage heater. We are dependent on rainwater, so please use our tank-water thoughtfully.
Plenty of places to park in and around the house. Al does not keep a spare roller-door opener. Easy to enter via the garage back door and press the opener button next the house entry door.
Inside, the house has open-plan living, dining & kitchen. A downloadable PDF (below) explains the TV & Music. Reverse-cycle air conditioning takes the chill or heat off. Al will help with fire & firewood. We encourage no shoes inside, thanks for understanding.
The pool is fenced - but only children who can swim are allowed in. Thanks. Please remember the Bush is home to snakes, ticks and the occasional biting arachnid. It's not your usual back-garden.
Cushions, loungers and spare chairs are stored in the Sunroom. There's a big sun-brolly in the garage. Please put the outside furniture covers back on overnight - saves them from the dew-fall. (And means everything's ready next morning)
We try to come at least two or three times a year. The reserve provides a short walk to the beaches and headland, so no need to drive once you're settled in.

The house had everything we needed, and we loved sitting on the back deck with a vino watching the wildlife parade, or swoop, past.
